RE: Diesel vs gas......................

Rvndave has a good point. For years I bought diesel for this very reason (and long engine life). The fuel economy is not just about $. I can leave St Pete FL full, fuel at south GA and middle of VA and make it to NY or MA. Fuel stops cost time. I used to drive 60K every year in my business. Now I bought 1 year ago a big toy hauler (pulled about 8-9K so far) and now I also get the heavy pulling power benifit. I now drive 40K business unloaded and 9-10K very loaded. There is no way a BB gas can do what I want. As I have said before the choice is up to the individual needs. I got what I need but you get what you need. 8.1 does not mind the extra fuel stops because with 12 people someone always gotta go pee. Note to 8.1, if your passengers pay for your fuel then you are transporting for compensation (illegal commercial operation). You will find this out if you ever have an injury and someone gets a lawyer. Don't take my word, check this out yourself. This may draw another nutty response.

RE: WW Fuel Gauge

Like on boats, I find all the guages on my 08 Fuzion to be worthless. Nature of the beast. I ran my genset with AC cranked for 21 hours and hand calculated to figure out how much it used an hour. Now I count my hours and the gas I use for the bikes to figure out how much is in the tank. Within 5% every time. The guage shows 1/4 tank after I use the first five gallons.

RE: So Fla. AARP (Al And Reeni's Party) Weekend

Is this an off road get together? We ride mx bikes and 1 atv. We went as far north as NY this year so we are open to anywhere in FL. Kids are 7, 9, & 45. I'm the 45 year old kid.

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

All you do is post the lowest gas price you find anywhere. NJ prices took longer to come down so you posted other prices from all over. As you can see by the diesel prices in AZ and TX that will also be coming way down. Can you try to explain how the price of the lowest grade fuel will will make your gas engine the best engine for all of America tow the heaviest loads over the steepest grades many times a year? Are you trying to help anyone with your posts? If you think your posts help anyone figure out whether to go gas or diesel please explain.

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

8.1 never posts the low diesel prices on Flying J, only the highest. Right now the lowest price for gas in AZ is 1.81 and the lowest price for diesel is 2.09. He is like CNN. Report not on how things are but how you want them to be.

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

Ace, you make more sense than others on this thread, Sorry if I took you as Pro gas only. I have a question since you seem to have experience in many configs. If you haul a heavy load with a newer gas engine can you use 87 like others say? If you do can you feel any loss in power as the engine prevents knocking. I am used to running 89 or higher hauling but I have not owned a gas engine since 96. Trying to clear up my own misconception if I have one. When figuring out $ per mile the grade of gas needed will make a difference. Which grade would be the one to use for hauling? Curious, but still gonna stick with my diesel.

RE: Compare Fuzion / Raptor / Cyclone

08 Fuzion 373. 08 Dodge dually truck. Rock solid ride. Pin weight drops the bed till it touches the overload springs and stops. Truck is up to the task.

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

Ace, I see in your post that you have experience in boats. Then you understand that they are under a heavy load, uphill both ways. My 34 hatt SF with new 454 330 hp gas engines ran the best at 3100 rpm. Speed 18-19 mph at .7 mpg. I repowered with 270 hp Cummins that run best at 2400 rpm. Speed 26 mph at 1.2 mpg. As I have posted on previous posts I DO AGREE that gas or diesel is based on individual needs. You do make some good points. Try not to be biased to gas as it seems to work best for you. If you pull 14K on a regular basis a good diesel MAY be the best choice. The whole idea about a forum is to provide others with both facts and and opinions for those trying to learn. I am diesel dually all the way for me and what I tow. I do not try to push my way of life on others, only my experiences. Give all the facts you do know about using the gas hauler and we can let readers determine what will work best for them. Even if a diesel or a dually can handle the load the best I know it is the wrong choice if the pull is short and not often. These things are also daily drivers too. Anyway the top of my post is my opinion on a regular HEAVY haul. Diesel all the way. That works for maybe 10%. 10% will use gas as the only clear choice. 80% need to figure out what will work best.

RE: Carlisle Tire Problems (09 Fuzion 302)

My 08 373 Fuzion came with Mission load range D tires. Before mishap I changed to Denman load range E tires. Many trouble free miles. The builders cut costs to keep prices as low as they can. I do not think they should do this on tires but from what I read they most all do. Upgrade yours while still new and sell the cheaper tires. Many others with lighter trailers can use these with no problems. My triple axle upgrade was $800 for seven tires and I got $225 for the ones I took off. Worth every penny.

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

8.1 wins!!!he has proven that based on the cost of gas that it can haul a heavy load better and cheaper than diesel. He can use the lowest grade with no power loss due to knock sensors and will have superior performance, the steeper the hills the more the atvantage. There is clearly no atvantage to running adiesel truck even if you tow a lot. He has proven that Rodolph Diesel was a nut case and that the BTU content theory was a dream. Like Dr Evil says, Riiiight!!!. Diesel is not for all but niether is gas. Get off your high horse. You provide negative value to an otherwise valuable forum.

RE: Diesel vs gas......................

At Flying J gas is 2.59 in Pembroke NY and Diesel is only 2.39 in Eloy AZ. 8.1 will have to admit that diesel is cheaper since I got my info like he does and painted the picture the way I want to see it. Also noted, bagels with poppy seeds are now cheaper than plain bagels. I feel real bad for those holding a bag of plain when the world is leaning twards the poppies.

RE: Interesting Comarison Ford PSD 6.0 Vs. 08 Ram 6.7 CTD

The original post was 6.0 VS 6.7. Here's my 2 cents. We all know about the differences of the two engines. I see a lot of postings about the perfect truck would be Ford with a Cummins and an Allison. Not to take anything from the reputation of the Ford chassis, but my Dodge is ROCK SOLID hauling my 14K pound (loaded) fifth wheel. I do not know how much better it could be. As for the tranny, the new six speed auto makes the biggest contribution to the trucks performance. Put one of these behind a 5.9 and it would transform the truck. My 3500 rides hard like a truck, pulls the trailer with no stability or stopping issues, shifts great, and gets great fuel economy. What else would you want in a truck? I do think Ford would sell many more trucks if they could put a Cummins in there. Ford owners are very loyal to the brand and the engine would draw many more buyers. I have always said I am a Cummins owner and it comes in a Dodge Box. Over the years the box got almost as good as the engine. I would like to hear from Ford owners about what is the advantages of the Ford chassis. In this mixed up world Chrysler may not be around to supply my next truck, so I am researching my next truck now. (3-5 years away). No flaming please, just constructive critisism so we can all learn something. Pretend we are at the same campfire grabbing beers from the same cooler. Note for 08 Dodge owners, My mileage went WAY up by unplugging the EGR valve. PM for more info on this. I hope this will help the OP if he did not buy a truck yet. I did not read all the pages.

RE: Unloaded PSI for E Rated Tires?

I have always had Dodge Cummins trucks with Michilins. I always run 80 front/70 rear unloaded. I get 80K to 90K wear out of the tires with even wear. The BF Goodrich tires that came on my 08 dually are over 50% gone with even wear at 18K miles. I will put the Michilins on this truck soon. Get opinions bases on the different brands to get the right pressure. This is based on over 850K miles driven, not a one time deal.

RE: diesel OR gas

If you are going for those years look for a gas truck but keep an eye open for a CTD or a Ford 7.3. Among all the higher prices there are some true bargains that would be almost the same price as gas. More options allow you to jump on the first "deal" ya find.

RE: Need more pulling power

I have had five "piece of junk" Dodge trucks. All had Cummins. The only tranny to fail was at 180K because i got the torqe to an honest 900++ lbs. My only complaints were no one to fix the first 24V problems when new, crappy steering wheel leather, the 01 dash that cracked into pieces, and my 05 had a computer brain fart at 140K that cleared itself and never came back. These things are strong, durable and yes, they ride hard because they are real trucks. My 14K loaded 08 Fuzion drops the bed untill it just touches the overload springs. NO AIR BAGS HERE. I won't bash the others but the above post IMO is inaccurate.

RE: UPDATE: Rear wheel will not come off

Had this happen on my Dodge.I had a flat and could not get the wheel to budge. Tire was shot so I left the lug nuts slightly cracked and drove once around the parking lot. Came right off.

RE: Just bought a 2000 F250 7.3 powerstroke-- Pros &cons?

I am a Cummins, Cummins,Cummins guy. That being said and out of the way I think you did great on the deal. The 7.3 is the best ever in the Ford trucks (I do know people that own them) and the Ford chassis is strong. One of the guys that works for me has 370K on his and the only engine related problems were the cam sensor thing (keep a spare on the truck) and 1 cracked fuel line well over 300K. Other than being hooked on my Cummins (no comments please) the only thing I don't like about Fords is they love to chew up front tires. This could have changed in the last five years, I don't know. What I do know is you bought a great truck with low miles and no one can take that away from you. Happy towing.
